Discover Elephant Caring in Chiang Mai - Chiang Mai

In the city of Chiang Mai, there are several camps that offer elephant riding and interaction. Although the thought of being able to ride on an elephant’s back sounds exciting, we, at Trip Guru, would like to remind fellow travelers to be wise with their choices. It is true that there are a lot of businesses that mismanage and maltreat their animals; but if you are still interested in partaking in this amazing activity, then TRIP GURU suggest you look for camps that value positive animal care, protection, and builds a strong relationship with their elephants.

If you want to traverse the jungles in Chang Mai with this fuzzy and playful creature, then look for camps that offer elephant rides that do not use constraining harnesses, and promote bareback riding. This allows you to become one with the animal, and at the same time, giving the elephant a more natural feel when you cross the rivers in the rainforests. In addition, there are elephant camps that help build the local elephant population by rescuing adults that can be rehabilitated. Most camps, however, require you to reserve beforehand and only allow a certain number of visitors per day.

If you are the type of backpacker who loves to volunteer your time to help the animals, the city of Chiang Mai certainly has a place for you. There are elephant camps that let you help out the handlers, for either one day or a full week, and take care of their elephants. You must remember, however, that riding on the elephant is not really part of their itinerary, but you get to learn about the animal and take care of it firsthand.

Learning about elephants through books and television is all right, but being able to see one with your very own eyes is a thrilling experience indeed. With one touch of your palm, you immediately create a bond with your elephant – making it even more difficult to part the city of Chiang Mai.
