Discover KL’s Cameron Highlands - Kuala Lumpur

Overview

The city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has numerous destinations that can definitely cater even to the pickiest traveler. Though it is known for its buzzing nightlife, there are hidden getaways wherein people can enjoy a peaceful silence within KL’s borders. To those who love to hike and explore the country’s vegetation, head towards the Cameron Highlands, and take in all the crisp, cool, and quiet scenery of Malaysia.

Nestling within the borders of Pahang and Perak province – far from the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur – the Cameron Highlands is a place filled with silence and the aromatic scent of tea, strawberry, and rice. As the largest hill station area in the country, first time and returning travelers always find themselves in awe with how a city like KL has a place meant to take all the accumulated stress away. Walking through its streets and mountainous pathways, and breathing in the fresh cold air is like an invitation to rejuvenation, because once visitors finish their Cameron Highland journey, their bodies and minds feel renewed. Although the Cameron Highlands does boast an impressive green landscape, there are numerous activities travelers will surely enjoy. There is the Boh Tea plantation, wherein tea lovers from across the globe can learn more about their favorite beverage, whilst sipping a cup made from local leaves; The Butterfly Farm, where visitors are surrounded with these gentle and colorful insects; and the Pasar Pagi and Pasar Malam markets - to help travelers bring a piece of Kuala Lumpur back home with them.

Trip Guru would like to remind potential travelers that before you head towards the Cameron Highlands, you will need to wear the proper attire. It can get pretty chilly up there, so bring your best jackets and wear comfortable clothing. Also, if you are planning to do more than just wallow in the area’s beauty, wear the right shoes and bring extra cash with you – especially if you feel like visiting the markets after.

The only way to get to the Cameron Highlands is by road. Hire a private car and head to the NSE by following the signs to Ipoh. Once you are in the express way, continue driving until you reach Tapah. Take Exit 132, then the Tapah toll booth (don’t forget to pay), and then turn left and the traffic lights, and from there onwards, you will reach the destination.
