Discover Kuang Si Waterfall - Luang Prabang
Kuang Si Waterfall, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Luang Prabang, is a sight to behold. Trip Guru suggests heading to the waterfall and the pools that surround it if you wish to spend a tranquil day in admiration of nature’s splendor.
Arriving at Kuang Si Waterfall would seem like stepping into a dream world with its lush vegetation, turquoise pools, and misty waters. The fall itself has 3 tiers and is about 50 meters high. However, the numerous pools beneath the waterfall leave the best impression on Kuang Si’s visitors. Travertine, a form of limestone found in springs, has turned the water in the pools azure and turquoise. Needless to say, these pools have captivated the hearts of travel enthusiasts from all over the world.
With its flurry of vibrant greens and calming blues, Kuang Si Waterfall begs to have its pictures taken. The waterfall and the pools offer more than views, though. Swimming is a popular activity among tourists and locals; the natural pools are surrounded by huts where visitors can change into their swimming clothes. Having a picnic around Kuang Si will also prove to be a memorable but somewhat relaxing experience, especially with the cool temperature and the sound of flowing water in the backdrop. In addition to fun activities in the water, you can also opt to have a picture taken with a local, but be sure to buy their products as an act of consideration for borrowing a bit of their working hours.
Kuang Si Waterfall is about 29 km south of Luang Prabang. The road to the fall is rocky, but it makes up for the bumpy ride with scenic village views en route. You can reach it by hiring a motorcycle, booking a tour, renting a tuk-tuk, or taking one of the mini-buses from Naluang Mini Bus station. If you want to try the less trodden road, you can hire a boat and ride down Mekong River, and then catch another boat to get to the fall. The entrance fee to Kuang Si Waterfall is about 2 USD per person.
