Discover The Morning Market - Vientiane

There's something interesting, always, in knowing how a culture or certain group of people live their everyday lives, and there is no better place to observe this than in a market. Travellers are always looking for something, and if you're looking for an aggressive shopping experience that you won't forget any time soon, there's no better place Trip Guru can recommend other than going to the Vientiane Morning Market.

Certainly, no tourist or traveller is going to be starved for choice here. For the morning market, certain skills must be and will be developed--the art of bargaining, in order to get the best price possible for your hard-earned money. There is no fixed price for goods in the morning market; it all depends on how low the seller is willing to go to get you to buy their items. You can also spot stalls selling beautiful floral arrangements, used as offerings when people visit temples.

What is completely fascinating about the morning markets is about how honest they are. It's the best place to get to know the culture of the people, especially if it's a market that caters to the locals with its choices of cuts of meat, fresh fish, spices and even some handmade souvenir items for any passing tourists to take home to their friends and families. You can walk around and see how the locals trade and bargain to bring food home to their families, and you can be sure that there’s no tourist traps here. Just people trying to get by, and sometimes that’s all anybody ever needs.

To get to the Vientiane Morning Market, remember htat it's located in the eastern corner of Lan Xng Rd. And Khu Vieng Rd, in the very heart of Vientiane. It opens from 7:00am until 4:00pm. To check if you're going the right way, another landmark is the Vientiane main post office, directly in front of the morning market. If you're staying in town, it's a simple 10 or 15 minute walk to the main fountain. If a tuktuk driver drops you off at the mall across the street, just cross to get to the morning market.
