About
Bondi Beach on the coastline of the Eastern Suburbs, only 8km away from the city, is a long arcing stretch of beautiful fine sand, dotted with sun-seekers lounging on the beach.
Depending on the conditions, surfers flock to the beach when the swell comes in. They catch waves along the beach break, where beginner surfers head to the northern area. More intermediate surfers can try to catch some near the southern rocks.
The Bondi surf line up can be quite crowded regardless of the forecast, and the best bet for a devoted surfer is to paddle out in the wee hours of the morning or head to nearby Tamarama or Bronte beach. Changing rooms and lockers are available at the Bondi Pavilion, and public showers cater to the crowd.
Residents and tourists can relax on the beach or go for an invigorating morning swim at the beach or the ocean pools on either end. If staying on land is more your style, head for a run along the boardwalk or up the scenic clifftop Bondi to Coogee coastal trail – or north to Watsons Bay along the Federation Cliff Walk.
Hit up the Bondi Farmers Market on Saturdays, Bondi Market on Sundays (at the Bondi Beach Public School) or check out the designer boutiques along Gould St for your retail fix.
If you’re in Bondi from January to March, head over to the Bondi Pavilion for the Ben & Jerry’s Open Air Cinema or admire the Sculpture By The Sea art installations along the Bondi to Tamarama Coastal Walk from October to November.
Trains from Central Station stop at Bondi Junction, where travelers can get a ten-minute taxi or bus ride to the beach. Buses from Circular Quay also go to Bondi Beach.
