Dragon Bridge Da Nang
t the heart of all this is the most impressive of the quartet of bridges: the Dragon Bridge or Cau Rong – a national symbol or power, nobility and good fortune.
About
For all the skyscrapers and modern architectural landmarks that now grace Da Nang’s skyline, the bridges more than anything else have brought the city pride. Every sunset, crowds gather along the riverside on Bach Dang Street to watch the spectacle as the four bridges are illuminated by thousands of LED lights flowing through the color spectrum.
At the heart of all this is the most impressive of the quartet of bridges: the Dragon Bridge or Cau Rong – a national symbol or power, nobility and good fortune. The engineering feat highlights the city’s growth, with its six-lane highway connecting the city to the beach resorts on the east side of Danang.
Every weekend at 9:00pm, Dragon Bridge Da Nang closes to traffic and huge throngs take the place of motorised vehicles to watch the “dragon” spout plumes of fire and water. The Vietnamese interpretation of “fire-breathing dragon” by way of steel and light… not something you’d see everyday
Also see:
- Thuan Phuoc Bridge: To the north, this colorful crossing connects the district of Son Tra to the city; it’s the largest suspension bridge in Vietnam.
- Han Song Bridge: This structure holds the title of Vietnam’s first swing bridge. Every morning between 1:00am and 4:00am Han Song is closed to traffic as it swings on its axis to allow large ships to pass along the Han River!
- Tran Thi Ly Bridge: Also to the north, this bridge has a 145-meter-high central mast that holds a striking sail that when illuminated can be seen from Hoi An’s beaches.
