Kuta Beach is the most famous stretch of beach in Bali, highly commercialized and chaotic. It is known for its crazy nightlife, jaw-dropping sunset views, and shopping through the nearby streets like Jalan Pantai jam-packed with stores, bars, hotels, cars, and people. Budget backpackers can find a cheap place to stay in Kuta, conveniently near the Ngurah Rai Airport.

During the day, tourists can settle into a spot to sunbathe, watching vendors walking by hawking their bracelets and little souvenirs or getting offered a beach massage. For a little more activity, hire an instructor for a surf lesson, as Kuta waves are suitable for beginners and intermediate surfers. Enjoy one of Asia’s finest waterparks at Waterbom Bali. For shopping sprees, walk through Poppies Lane and find many beach apparel outlets as well as surf shops where you might chance upon some surfboard bargains.

GETTING THERE

Heading to Kuta from the Ngurah Rai International Airport only takes around twenty minutes unless it’s rush hour. Pre-book a hotel pick up from the airport, take an airport taxi, or grab a taxi from the departures area and pay around IDR70,000 or more. GoJek motorcycle or GrabCar are also options in this area. Once in Kuta, rent a motorbike to get around or explore the town by walking.
