My Khe Beach Place guide

Also known as “China Beach”, My Khe Beach is the most famous out of the 30km or 18.5 miles along Da Nang’s coastline. After the arrival of American soldiers in 1965, it became popular among GIs who came to visit over the holidays. 

My Khe is part of the longer and bigger “Danang Beach”, which runs parallel to Da Nang City and Bac My An. To the north, scores of glitzy Vietnamese seafood restaurants and karaoke bars attract nouveau-riche Vietnamese and Chinese tourists on business trips. 

Walk southwards and you’ll hit rows of humble seafood shacks and the city’s public beach – a wide, white and sandy stretch almost always deserted during the day. 

Sandwiched between Monkey Mountain and the nearby Marble Mountains, My Khe is home to several My Khe beach hotels and resorts such as Pullman, Belle Maison, and more. Despite Da Nang’s construction frenzy, however, My Khe retains its fine white sand and clean warm waters, especially isolated on weekdays. 

Beachfront vendors sell coastal specialties along the promenade; think shrimp, crab and fish. By way of facilities, there are umbrellas and restrooms as well as lifeguards on duty year-round (one of the few in Vietnam). However, watch out for rip currents and waves if you fancy a swim. Surfing is sometimes good; check the swell before you come. 

Further south and you’ll hit Bac My An, home to the highest concentration of luxury beach resorts in the area, not to mention the city’s first casino resort. The palm-fringed beaches here attract an international crowd and feature wraparound views of the bay.
