About

Also known as Namiseom, this half-moon shaped island was catapulted into the limelight when many Korean dramas started using its picturesque scenery as their backdrops. Now one of the most popular Korea attractions, visitors go to the island to marvel at the trees, gardens, rivers, and nature-filled paths at all times of the year. This should definitely be on your list of South Korea places to visit!

How to get there

  • Book a tour of Nami Island, Petite France & Gangchon Rail Bike Tour (Seoul) – Full Day

  • Train: Take Subway Line 1 and exit at Yongsan Station. From there, take the ITX KORAIL train (you can book tickets in advance) to Gapyeong Station (travel time is approximately 1 hour).

  • Train: Take Subway Line 1 and stop at Yongsan Station. From there, switch to the Gyeongui Jungang Line and continue until Sangbong Station. From there, switch to the Gyeongchun Line and exit at the Gapyeong Station.

  • From Gapyeong Station: Once you get off, you can do any of the following options (listed below):

    • Option 1: Take the Gapyeong City Tour Bus—the bus stop is located right outside the station—and get off at Nami Island Station (just one stop). Then proceed to walk for approximately 2 minutes to Gapyeong Wharf. This is recommended for visitors who also want to pass by Petite France as the bus ticket can also be used to visit all Gapyeong attractions.

    • Option 2: If you’re just in it for Nami Island itself, a more economical route would be to take the Intra-City Bus which runs from around 7am to 8pm. You can find the bus stop across the street from Gapyeong Station.

    • Option 3: If you’re traveling in a group, another option would be to take a taxi from the station to the wharf. You can usually find taxis by the station exit.

  • Once you get to the wharf, you can either zipline directly to the island or take a ferry. The zipline will only take two minutes; however you must be over 140cm (4.5 feet) and 35kg (77 pounds) to take the zipline, and bulky bags must be left in assigned lockers. The ferry is a cheaper alternative, and you can buy your tickets at the wharf.

  • Bus: Reserve a seat on a shuttle bus here, and wait either at Insa-dong (near the west gate of Tapgol Park) or the Sungnyemun Square bus stop in front of the Namdaemun market. Take note that the bus usually leaves at around 9:30am, and will take you directly to the wharf. From there, you can board the ferry which will take you directly to Nami island.

  • Car: For a more luxurious and hassle-free journey, you can choose to either rent a car and drive to the wharf, where you’ll still have to take the ferry to get to the island, or book a private car to get you to the wharf. Note that parking fees may also apply.
