Discover Raem National Park - Sihanoukville
Visiting national parks has become a popular activity – especially for travelers who love to trek and hike. Though it does not share the glitz and glamour of the city’s nightlife or bustling with the sounds of the locals, it manages to attract those who prefer exploring the nation’s regional wildlife. In Sihanoukvile, Cambodia, the Ream National Park is known to be the best place to spot the country’s most beloved and treasured biospheres.
Established in the year 1993, the Ream National Park was the call to action of the Cambodian government to take care of the country’s most endangered and threatened natural resources. It consists of a connection of rivers, mangroves, forests, beaches, coral reefs, marine life, and estuaries. Here, visitors are enveloped with the calls of some of the nation’s most amazing creatures such as the rhesus monkey, dugongs, and Sarus cranes, and are bathed in the aroma of Cambodia’s natural tropical scent. A lot of travelers love to trek within the 6,000 hectares of land, and somehow let their minds get lost and wander in all the majesty Ream National Park has to offer.
Trip Guru would like to remind fellow travelers that the Ream National Park is first, and foremost, home to hundreds of species of flora and fauna. There are times wherein its landscapes have been severely damaged because of tourism, and it is now your responsibility to do your part. When visiting this park, please bear in mind to clean up after your messes, and produce as little waste as possible. Also, when encountering wildlife, do not approach them carelessly – it is better to leave them alone. Always follow your guide (if you hired one) and do not interrupt Mother Nature’s work at hand.
The easiest method to get to Ream National Park is by private car, motodop, or motorbike. From Krong Preah Sihanouk take Street N° 801 to Nationaly highway 4 and after 2.2km take a slight turn to the right. After 15.1km drive to Sun Moon Resort Road, and after 41 minutes of driving, Ream National Park should be in the proximity.
What our experts tell about this experience.
The people in the national park were very hospitable when my friends and I came to visit. Of course, the highlight of our experience was when we saw all sorts of animals during our trek. Pretty sure I haven’t explored enough of this place. I will definitely go back!
