About
Think Nusa Penida in Bali, but wilder. If you are after a more natural adventure on Indonesia’s islands, perhaps Rinca and Flores Islands farther east are for you. Venture beyond the touristy ‘Island of the Gods’ and go on an overnight adventure to East Nusa Tenggara, home to the komodo dragon.
Day 1: We’ll begin our busy day by heading to the airport and boarding a small plane to West Flores. After the short flight, we’ll make our way to the harbour and board a boat that will take us to Rinca Island. The island is situated in the center of the Indonesian archipelago and is one of the many islands that make up Komodo Dragon National Park.
Once we touch the ground, we’ll start trekking through the volcanic terrain, keeping our eyes peeled for the famous giant monitor lizards that inhabit the island. If you’re thinking that komodo dragons are all that Rinca Island has to offer, you’ll quickly be proven wrong. Get ready for scenic views, lush forests, and other wild animals like deer, pigs, monkeys, and buffalo.
“Great place to meet komodo dragons… It is not possible to miss the dragons there and they are absolutely not locked in any cages… Great guide service. Beautiful views.” — Krisek, U.K.
After exploring Rinca, we’ll head back to Flores and Labuan Bajo, making a stop at Kelor Island (a.k.a. Bidadari) for a spot of swimming and snorkeling. Frolic in the turquoise waters, admire schools of fish, or relax on the pristine shoreline before we make our way back to Labuan Bajo. We’ll check in to our hotel and have the rest of the evening for free time.
Day 2: Our second day will be all about exploring Labuan Bajo. After breakfast, we’ll wander around the town and visit the local market to browse through the wares, produce, and goods of local vendors. The next stop is the stunning Mirror Caves, called Batu Cermin Cave by locals, named for its sparkling walls and emerald green pool. From the Mirror Caves, we’ll make our way to the airport, catch the next flight to Bali, and shuttle you safely back to your accommodation.
“The cave entrance is beautiful with hanging vines and tree roots… Interesting stalagmites and stalactites. Lots of great photo opportunities… Definitely worth a visit.” — Vanadia, U.K.
