About
As the country’s cultural capital, Kyoto is a great place to explore not only Unesco heritage sites but also renowned Japanese cuisine. On this day trip, we will take you to Arashiyama and Sagano – the city’s most important sightseeing district second only to Higashiyama.
After meeting at the JR Saga Arashiyama station, we’ll travel together to the area’s main district, starting at Togetsu-kyo bridge. We’ll explore this area for a bit, including the main street, before continuing to Tenryuji, built in 1339. The “heavenly dragon” temple’s main attraction is its ancient Zen garden, which has inspired not only Japan’s – but also the world’s – art of landscaping.
Finally, we’ll get to the heart of the tour: our food tasting of local delicacies! Here’s a typical menu for your review; remember you can let us know at checkout whether you have dietary restrictions under ‘food preference':
- Croquette
- Soy milk donut
- Negiyaki (Japanese pancake)
- Deep fried fish cake with yuba (tofu skin)
- Matcha (green) tea
- Japanese sweets
- A bottle of water
Stomachs full and hearts happy, we return to Togetsukyo bridge where we will part ways so that you can explore Arashiyama and Sagano’s wonders for the rest of the afternoon. (Don’t miss Okochi Sanso!)
“I experienced a lot of good food in Japan, but Kyoto is the city which offered us the most diverse dishes. Now I understand why Kyoto is referred to as Japan's culinary capital.” — Cory Varga, You Could Travel
