About
You may think that the Similan Islands is the next unspoiled destination to discover, but you’ll be surprised to know that this tour is precisely designed to avoid the crowds of tourists that flock day in and out. With pick-up from your hotel right after sunrise, though, you can be sure to have a headstart on the remote archipelago’s lush tropical jungle and marine life at its quietest hours.
But, it’ll be quite a journey to get there. Unlike Koh Phi Phi and its proximity to Phuket, the Similan Islands are a 2-hour road trip (from the mainland) and a 2-hour boat ride away. It’ll be a small price to pay for the snorkeling adventure that awaits, but it would be best to prepare yourself for quite a ride getting there.
Located in the middle of the Andaman Sea, the archipelago is home to whale sharks, manta rays, and an underwater city of coral reefs. It was named among the “Top 10 Diving Spots” by National Geographic, with an average depth of 25 meters lining its shores, allowing both beginner and intermediate divers to explore the sub-aquatic sights. Lest swarms of tourists ruin your view of the magnificent boulders and #nofilter beauty of the white sand beach, set your alarm to this call of nature and enjoy a day of snorkeling, island hopping, and picnicking around this National Park.
While Similan means “nine” in the native tongue, there are actually 11 islands that make it up, with the northern islands Koh Tachai and Koh Bon recently added to its expansive 140-square kilometer coverage. Out of convenience, the islands are identified by their numbers, with Island No. 4 being home to the royal family during the summer months.
