About
Spend a morning immersing yourself in the rich art, history, and culture of Mexico with a guided tour of the revered Anahuacalli Museum.
The Anahuacalli Museum, also known as the Diego Rivera Museum, is a stolid teocalli (god-house) that houses more than 2,000 pieces from Diego Rivera’s personal collection. Rivera, a renowned Mexican painter, had collected thousands of pre-Hispanic pieces during his lifetime, with the intent to display the legacy and culture of Mexico.
“We were blown away by this museum which is part museum/part gallery. The exhibits are stunning, but it’s the eccentric, purpose-built temple which makes this so unique. Walking around the corridors, you slowly ascend to the top with great open-air views of Mexico City in the distance.” – Olive, UK
We’ll begin our tour with a pick up from your accommodations. You’ll board a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and relax as your driver brings you to the museum. Take in the imposing facade made out of black volanic rock before heading inside to begin a guided tour.
You’ll learn about the origins of the museum, the lives of Diego Rivera and his wife Frida Kahlo, and the history and culture of the many pieces within the museum. After the tour, you’ll have some free time to explore some of your favorite areas and view your favorite pieces, before we bring you back to your accommodations.
“I was so impressed with this museum. There’s so much to see and know about Diego Rivera. Just an amazing wealth of artifacts collected in this one place. The museum is designed to capture the beauty of what is displayed. Travelers should definitely include this in their itinerary.” – Ann, USA
