About
The 15th-century Inca citadel of Machu Picchu is without a doubt the reason why you’re here. Built on a mountain ridge 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level, there are few more breathtaking sites in this world than the "Lost City of the Incas". Dedicate an entire day to this once-in-a-lifetime experience with our local partners, who are committed to sustainable tourism whilst providing international standards of hospitality to each and every guest.
We begin before the crack of dawn at your hotel lobby, where you will be picked up. The Two hour journey from Cusco takes us to Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley – a spectacular archeological site of its own. If you have time on either side of your train rides, you might want to climb the fortified town for sweeping views of the ravine and river below.
The train ride to Aguas Calientes is a must for any traveller to Machu Picchu. This is not a journey to catch up on sleep, as you wouldn’t want to miss the beautiful scenery along the Urubamba River amidst the High Andes.
The town of Aguas Calientes, your terminus, lies at the base of Machu Picchu. We’ll here meet our local guide, who will join you for the bus ride to the main site. Above the dense forest, you’ll finally reach the city that the Spanish conquistadors never found – hidden away above the clouds, in the midst of steep mountains. Legend has it that when the invaders came, the Incas destroyed all roads connecting other cities to their holy Machu Picchu so that it would never be found.
