Southeast Asia is known for extravagant temples built on top of mountains, some of which are great national treasures worthy of a visit. One such place is the Phnom Bok Mountain Temple in Cambodia. Book this guided group trip with us to learn more about these cultural marvels.
Located in Siem Reap, this shrine is situated on top one of the country’s highest mountains. It’s also one of the most significant Hindu temples constructed during the time of the ancient Khmer. The tour starts from the pick-up point at your hotel. From there, our provided transportation will take you to the temple’s stairway at base of the mountain. While climbing the 640 steps to reach it can be a challenge for travelers of moderate fitness, the summit treats people to 360-degree views of the surrounding countryside. You can even see the Angkor Wat and the Kulen Mountains from where you’ll stand. Another place to visit is the Banteay Samre temple, which features many intact carvings and statues. It’s also one of the temples that strongly resembles the Angkor Wat and those of the Phimai in Thailand.
- Hotel pick-up
- Arrive at Phnom Bok, explore Banteay Samre and see one of the superb Hindu temples of the Khmer rulers, Suryavarman II and Yasovarman II. Climb 640 steps of a steep mountain to see the temples.
- Drive back to hotel
Climbing mountains to see the temples on the summits is quite the challenge, but the view from up top is really breathtaking. It’s a good workout too.
If you want to explore more temples outside of the Angkor Wat, then this is the trip I’d suggest. The guides were really helpful in showing us around the sites and telling the story of each place.
