About

The Cu Chi tunnels are a must for anyone travelling through Ho Chi Minh. If you’re loathe to spend the day indoors at the War Remnants Museum, consider the grounds at Cu Chi the equivalent of an open-air museum in the heart of a living, breathing jungle. The trip combines culture and history in an outdoor excursion that immerse you in 100% Vietnam realness.

Contrary to popular belief, the infamous Cu Chi tunnels were not built by the Vietnamese during the Vietnam War (1955-1975). Rather, their construction began in 1948 when the Viet Minh were fighting against French colonizers. Building continued over the next 25 years, until its network of labyrinthine tunnels stretched up to 250 km all the way to the Cambodian border.

“Being in the jungle and seeing the real traps, tunnels and surroundings was intense. The noise from the firing range makes the whole experience more real.” – Cormac, Ireland

Get stuck into hiding spots the Viet Cong used during combat. At Cu Chi’s grounds, you will see firsthand everything the Vietnamese used to wage guerilla warfare: communication and supply routes, their hospital, kitchen, weapon caches and living quarters. You will glimpse how they lived, taste what they ate, and get up to speed on how they used the resources around them to defend themselves and their land.

It may be two hours away from the city, but you’ll leave thankful to be living on the other side of war, and to visit Vietnam as it is now: a country that is renewing and rebuilding to catch up for all those lost years fighting for freedom.
