About

Kinabalu National Park – home to Borneo’s highest mountain and some of the island’s best-preserved forests. Although most travelers come to conquer the mountain over the course of a multi-day ascent, there are many spots among the foothills worth exploring, as we will today on a day trip from Kota Kinabalu…

Nabalu Market: A buzzing hub oddly famous for a Lookout Point with direct views of Mount Kinabalu. People also come for amazingly sweet pineapple, fairer-priced souvenirs, and other local delicacies the likes of tuhau (fermented sambal), handicrafts, local rice, and lihing (rice wine).

“This is a must-stop to get a feel of the local peoples and their produce.”Adda, Singapore

Kinabalu Park: There are other ways to enjoy this legendary mountain. Instead of pursuing a relentless assault, join our guided walk around the foothills and its lush Botanical Gardens.

Poring Hot Spring: A popular weekend retreat for locals, the complex is part of the Kinabalu National Park. The hot springs can be found in a well-maintained area that gives visitors a small slice of the jungle thanks to its many nature paths. The springs are comprised of pools and tubs filled with sulphurous volcanic water rich in minerals – delivering countless health benefits!

Canopy Walk: This activity begins with a climb up a ladder tree; 40m above ground, we’ll get to a rope bridge in the midst of a dense jungle. We’ll also traverse hanging bridges totalling to a 150m-long walk above the tree canopy with breathtaking views – all in all a great immersion into the rainforest!

Butterfly Farm*: A must-visit for all plant lovers. The park began as a conservation project with the Sabah Wildlife Department to breed endangered butterflies. Now, it’s just as well-known for its native orchid collection. The Nepenthes Garden walk takes visitors on a ridge with beautiful scenery and cooling weather.

Desa Cattle Dairy Farm: A highland site in Kundasang where visitors can observe free-range cows being fed and milked. The cool air and nice environment make for an excellent visit, not to mention the range of dairy products fresher than you’ve ever tasted them from chocolate and coffee flavored milk to gelato ice cream, goat milk, and strawberry / blueberry yogurt.
