About

“As the centre of Japanese culture for more than 1,000 years, Kyoto illustrates the art of Japanese architecture and gardens, which has influenced landscape gardening the world over.”Unesco World Heritage Centre

If you want to understand Japanese culture, go to the spring of it: the ancient city of Kyoto. Home to 17 Unesco World Heritage sites, few other cities can compare to this landscape of colorful shrines, ancient temples and sublime gardens. Over the course of this tour, we will hit the most powerful of Kyoto’s landmarks, a veritable marathon that covers the essentials, yet barely scratches the surface.

Are you ready? Here we go:

Kiyomizu-dera: Famous for the main hall’s huge veranda supported by giant pillars and jutting out over the hillside. Massive and magnificent, an unforgettable and unmissable stop.

Sanju-san-gen-do Temple: Home to 1,001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. “Sanjusangendo” literally means "33 intervals", referring to the building's support columns; its temple hall is Japan's longest wooden structure.

Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine: A postcard staple, this sight is iconic for its seemingly endless arcade of vermilion torii gates.

Arashiyama & Sagano Bamboo Forest: At the base of Kyoto’s western mountains sit these stunning bamboo groves. Enter through Togetsu-kyo Bridge and walk through the cinematic expanse of swaying bamboo – one of Japan’s top experiences.

Lunch: Enjoy a local hot pot with delicious umami flavour; please specify dietary restrictions under special requirements at checkout.

Tenryu-ji Temple: “Heavenly Dragon” in Japanese, this temple is visited mainly for its 14th-century Zen garden.

Kinkaku-ji temple (Golden Pavilion): One of Japan’s best known sights; a shogun’s retirement villa converted into a temple and covered in gold-foil.
