You’ll head to Ninenzaka next and enter a kimono shop where you’ll get fitted for a kimono. Iconic symbols of traditional Japanese culture, kimonos are an expression of individuality, and the design, color, and style can convey a wearer’s identity, social status, and even the nature of the event.

Once you’re dressed to the nines, you’ll head to a teahouse nearby to participate in an authentic, traditional tea ceremony. Known as ‘chanoyu’ or ‘chado’, the Japanese tea ceremony is a highly ritualized and meditative practice centered around the preparation, serving, and consumption of tea. Get a firsthand glimpse into the heart of Japanese culture and learn about the basics of tea making, guided by an expert instructor.

After the tea ceremony and still dressed in your full kimono outfit, your guide will lead you back out to visit more of Kyoto’s beautiful sights. Visit the Yasaka Pagoda and pose for some striking photos, pass by Maruyama Park and see the famous Yasaka Shrine before heading to the Gion District and strolling along Shijo Street and Hanamikoji Street.
