Less than 45 minutes away from Guadalajara is Lake Chapala, Mexico&rsquo;s largest lake. On this relaxed road trip, we will take you on an excursion from Guadalajara to Chapala Lake, where we&rsquo;ll take a scenic boat trip to Scorpion Island (Isla de los Alacranes). The small isolated isle is only accessible only by boat, including popular canoes. This is your chance to take photos of Chapala across the waters, while our guide points out the many types of birds &ndash; including pelicans &ndash; that inhabit the lake.

Now might be a good time to stop for a bite; one good thing about the large expat community here is the great variety of cuisines they&rsquo;ve brought to the area! You&rsquo;ll find delicious eats from Greek to Chinese, on top of the locale&rsquo;s ethnic foods. Many make a beeline for the outdoor restaurants serving local specialties the likes of fried tiny fish accompanied with salt, lemon and chili.

Next we&rsquo;ll head to Chapala and Ajijic to stroll through the cobblestone streets while enjoying the galleries&rsquo; romantic atmosphere. Admire the quaint shops, street dancers, musicians, and colonial style houses against the backdrop of mountains that enjoy amazing weather all year. (Pro tip: Head over to the lakefront promenade or Chapala Malecon for scenic views along the pretty boardwalk)
