About
Take a break from Kota Kinabalu’s famous trekking, shopping, and island hopping activities and immerse yourself in the culture and ethnic lifestyle of five indigenous tribes in Malaysia.
The cowboys and sea gypsies of the Bajau tribe, the hunters and fishermen of the Lundayeh tribe, the famously feared headhunters of the Murut tribe – the longest living residents of the area – the Rungus tribe, and the rice farmers of the Dusun tribe will welcome you to their remote forest village in Kionsom, where you will get to witness some of their unique traditional activities.
“I was quite hesitant, but turned out to be an amazing experience. Well preserved cottages and tools, absolutely educational. A “must see” if you are around.” — Darija, USA
Witness the locals make blow-pipes, draw tattoos, and even start a fire with just bamboo sticks. Listen to them weave stories about their ancestors, their beliefs, lifestyle, and history.
They’ll also be preparing a cultural performance for you to help you learn more about and understand their way of life. To cap it all off, you’ll be able to taste some authentic Malaysian dishes made by each of the tribes, right before returning to your hotel.
“Up in the hills beyond Kota Kinabalu… a great morning learning about the different tribes in Sabah, lots of food and drinks to taste, followed by traditional dancing and a great lunch.” — Paul, Australia
