About
The Yucatan state in Mexico is famous for housing historical archaeological sites, beautiful beaches, and mesmerizing cenotes. Between Cancun and Tulum, there are endless opportunities for sightseeing adventures.
Because of the popularity of the Riviera Maya, some tend to overlook the capital of the Yucatan state, Merida. This colorful and vibrant city is rich in Mayan and colonial heritage – not to mention extremely picturesque too! So if you find yourself in Merida and in need of a friendly guide who will double as your photographer, this trip is for you!
We’ll begin our tour by meeting up at the iconic Paseo de Montejo. This notable avenue was named after the Spanish conquistador and founder of the city, Francisco de Montejo, back in the mid-1500s. Then we’ll head to one of the most beloved cafes in town, Cafeteria Impala. After a quick coffee and snack break, we’ll stroll around Paseo de Montejo Avenue and see some of the city’s most iconic buildings and structures.
“A really beautiful place where you can see houses (or almost castles) that have incredibly beautiful architecture. A truly beautiful place.” – Ricardo, Argentina
We’ll visit Monumento a la Patria (Monument to the Fatherland), a famous landmark that illustrates the history of the Mayan people. Then if it’s open, we’ll proceed to Montejo 495, a mansion built in the French colonial-style era. We’ll explore the beautifully-preserved interiors and snap photos of the opulent and luxurious design before moving on to see Museo Casa Montejo.
“The opulence of this building and its furnishings was truly impressive. A beautiful gallery showcasing the fantastical and exquisitely painted figurines that were really inspiring! Mexico's finest artisans!” – Carol
Next, we’ll view and snap photos of the exteriors of Hotel Casa Azul and El Pinar before heading to Parroquia Santa Ana. We’ll marvel at this stately 18th century Catholic Church before making our way to Manjar Blanco, a popular lunch spot that was featured in the Taco Chronicles on Netflix. We’ll chow down on some delicious tacos (at your own expense) to end the day’s adventure.
