About
“Pescador Island is surreal – truly a paradise. The water is so blue and clear that it makes you want to stay forever. The underwear world with beauuuutiful corals creates an out-of-this-world feeling.” – Love Istanbul
If you’ve already exhausted all the island hopping options around Cebu and Mactan but want to see more of the area’s underwater treasures, then this day trip to Pescador Island is just the thing. Located in the snorkelling paradise of Moalboal on Cebu’s west coast, Pescador Island is home to colorful fish and wonderful corals with a vibrant intensity that you won’t quite find near the airport and city center. Divers first flocked to these shores thanks to perfect conditions, sea turtles, and sardine shoals.
If you’re deciding between island hopping in Mactan versus the farther Moalboal, the former would definitely be more convenient. However, Moalboal holds more of the Philippines’ true beauty in terms of natural scenery and biodiversity. It’s further out, but as they say – good things come to those who wait.
Fun Fact: “Pescador” means “fisherman” in Spanish
We’ll be picking you up from your hotel in Mactan / Cebu early to avoid the traffic and catch marine life when they’re most active. At 9am we’ll arrive at the pier at Moalboal where we’ll take the boat out to Pescador Island. There you’ll ditch the human world for an aqua one teeming with inhabitants the likes of hawkbill turtles, nudibranch (Spanish Dancers), parrotfish, the famous sardine run… even a whale shark if you’re lucky! In the summer months, however, make sure to wear a rashguard or a wetsuit during jellyfish season.
“The water was clear, calm and absolutely clean. The whole place is pure virgin island. On our way, we saw dolphins swimming around, what a surprise!” – Louise, Trip Advisor
