About
“Two wheels, not four, is the best way to explore Okinawa.” — Robert Kodama, Japan Times
Discover the beauty of Southern Okinawa on this 28km, 4-hour guided cycling tour following the Itoman Route. We ride through the popular tourist attractions of Umikaji Terrace, Kaigungo former Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters, Toyomi Bridge, and Manko Park.
We start the day by picking you up from your hotel. Our local guide will go over the basics of biking before we go off on our scenic tour.
First, we go to the small island of Senagajima to see the beautiful Umikaji Terrace – said to be Japan’s version of Santorini in Greece. There, we’ll go for a pleasant bike ride through palm-tree pathways overlooking the ocean. White stucco buildings housing boutique shops, restaurants, and cafés make for a picturesque setting.
We then make for the former Japanese navy underground headquarters – a past battleground now become a beacon of peace. The museum and playground here invite exploration, and from the viewing platform one can behold the East China Sea beyond the island’s southern metropolitan area all the way to ancient Shuri Castle.
After cycling over Toyomi Bridge we arrive at our last stop: The Manko Waterbird and Wetland Center. Wild bird species create seasonal homes here, including egrets, sandpipers, and plovers among the mangroves.
