About

In the province of Azilal, 150 km northeast of Marrakech, lie the waterfalls of Ouzoud, a popular day trip from the city. Visitors come to enjoy the country’s more natural wonders, not least of them this 328-foot (100m) cascade in the Moyen Atlas village of Tanaghmeilt.

“A must do – great for nature and outdoor lovers. Was a nice road trip kind of thing; you’ll see the real Morocco. I wish we had more time there.”Paul, London, UK

After the long ride, you’ll probably be excited to strap on your hiking sandals and get walking! You have a few options here; you can journey down a paved trail through olive trees to the bottom of the gorge. From there, look up as the water cascades over the edge far above you. If you’re up for a challenge, head back around from the other side to make a loop of it. Either way, at the end, you’ll welcome the cool dip at the pools!

As this is a self-guided tour, you can hire local guides (optional) to take you down and back up again at the falls for the loop. Chances are, you’ll encounter playful Barbary macaques along the way. At the basin itself, local boatmen offer rides on their craft to take you to closer to the cascade if you so wish. Be prepared to get a little wet as you will be taken right up to where the waterfall drops where you can feel the power and force of nature.

Lunch is a leisurely affair at one of the local cafés serving delicious food next to the stream. Admire the breathtaking views as you dine on traditional tagine at a terrace. This is gonna be your “ahhh, this is the life” moment. (Tip: The restaurants at the top cost about half the price but without the view).

“A real highlight of our trip to Morocco. The falls are absolutely superb – among the best we have seen anywhere. The place is amazing and worth it.”Harrison Carter, San Francisco, CA
