About
Nestled close to the coast, the city of Cairns is a well-known gateway to the spectacular bounty of north-east Australia. But it’s not all about Daintree and the Barrier Reef: the glorious green countryside and majestic waterfalls are well worth a visit! We’ll take you right to the heart of the region with no need to hire your own vehicle or navigate sporadic public transport.
Beginning just after midday, we’ll depart the city and journey towards Josephine Falls, a three-tiered waterfall regarded as the most beautiful in Tropical Queensland. Bring your swimwear because you’ll have the chance to beat the heat and dive into its cooling crystal-clear pools.
Next, we’ll visit Manu Tropical Skywalk, an iconic swinging bridge boasting spectacular views of the lush rainforest. With 1,200 metres of walking tracks to explore, you’ll be kept busy until our next stop...
“If you want to learn about the tropical rainforest and Aboriginal life, this is the right place. The views over the rainforest and gorge of North Johnstone River are breathtaking.” — Johannes, Germany
Also on the itinerary is Paronella Park, a heritage-listed oasis on the banks of Mena Creek. Open since 1934, this site was the vision of Jose Paronella who dreamt of creating his own paradise – a wish he fulfilled with this 5-hectare park containing 7,500 species of plants, a picnic area and even a castle!
As the sun sets, your guide will take you on a Darkness Falls Tour, exploring the natural features and illuminated castle at dusk. Before the day’s up, we’ll enjoy some wallaby-spotting and stargazing as we journey back to Cairns. What more could you want from a day in rural Aus?
‘‘Truly magical. I’ve come here four times and each person I have brought has also fallen in love with the history of the place.’’ — James, Australia
