About
If you want to skip the large groups of visitors around Phi Phi Island, an afternoon excursion is just the solution. Visit Monkey Beach, Viking Cave, Pileh Lagoon, and Loh Samah Bay as the tourist crowds dwindle, and soak up the fantastic sunset views.
Monkey Beach: This island was named after the precocious monkeys that inhabit it. Watch the curious creatures wander about (just don’t get too close to them!), take in the fantastic views of the island, or swim in the turquoise waters before heading to our next stop.
Viking Cave: Vikings in Thailand? Not quite. The cave was named after the paintings found on its walls – one of which was a Scandinavian-looking boat, hence, the name of the cave. Besides the impressive sketches, another feature the cave is famous for are the birds’ nests that the locals collect for the popular Chinese dish bird’s nest soup.
“I didn’t expect to see this cave, but it is something that everyone definitely needs to see! It reminds me of the movie Pirates of Caribbean!” — Stefani, Greece
Pileh Lagoon: We’ll head to Pileh Lagoon next, where we’ll jump into the emerald waters and snorkel with the fish. You can also relax on the boat and take in the gorgeous scenery around you – you won’t get this unique backdrop of limestone cliffs and bright waters anywhere else.
Loh Samah Bay: Our next stop is another popular snorkeling spot. Even if you’re not an experienced swimmer, you can wade around in the shallow waters of the bay and catch glimpses of the colorful marine life. After splashing around, we’ll head to Maya Bay, which famously appeared in the 1999 movie The Beach. Here we’ll admire majestic views of the steep cliffs surrounding the pristine bay.
“This is a beautiful place near Phi Phi Island where we did some snorkeling. You can even see baby sharks… wonderful experience.” — Devendra, India
