About
Taipei is a megalopolis known for its towering skyscrapers, never-ending shops, and inimitable street food. But if you want a change of scenery from the hustle and bustle of the capital, this full day trip to the Pinglin Tea Plantation & Thousand Island Lake will be just what you need.
Pinglin Tea Museum: Roughly a half hour ride from the city, the Pinglin Tea Museum is one of the largest tea museums in the world. We’ll stroll through the halls and exhibitions of the museum, soaking up the history and importance of tea to the Taiwanese and Chinese cultures.
“It’s all about tea and done in a very modern and appealing way. Good interactive games with a very informative history about the tea. Really lovely souvenir opportunities.” — Anne, Switzerland
Pinglin Tea Plantation: After a brief history lesson, we’ll proceed to the plantation itself where we’ll take in the vast land covered in vibrant tea plants. We’ll watch the local farmers tend to the tea and even get the chance to sample some of the plantation’s famous Pouchong tea.
Noodle Making Class: Right before our stomachs start growling, we’ll put our cooking skills to the test in a noodle making class. We’ll learn how to make traditional, fresh noodles and get to eat our finished product together with a simple lunch.
Thousand Island Lake: Our last stop of the day is the Thousand Island Lake – although the name itself is quite deceiving as it neither has a thousand islands nor is it a lake. This body of water is actually a result of the creation of the Feicui Reservoir merging with the water from the Beishi River. The turquoise water and lush green landscapes make it the perfect picturesque spot to take some photos to remember your day by.
“This is a must see if you are looking for some breathtaking views and pictures. The scenery literally took my breath away. This place is so incredibly beautiful, words cannot describe it. ” — Erica, Canada
