About

Understand Tai Chung – western Taiwan’s transport hub – through its arts, nature, culture and food over this half day tour with a local expert. Make sure you anticipate the afternoon with a hearty lunch, as we’ll be covering at least four (4) major sights together, beginning with the National Taichung Theater.

Surrounded by greenery and marked by beautiful architecture, the National Taichung Theater is a new building (2016) inspired by modern art reminiscent of (or inspired by?) the works of Antoni Gaudí. Its rooftop garden commands great views over the city, whilst the indoor space holds hip kiosks and pop-up stores by local artists.

“This place is awesome, there's a lot of attention to detail. The walls are famously wavy, and so it feels like walking into a cave. The building has 6 floors, but going up the winding stairs was easy going.”Rosario, Mexico

Rainbow Village, meanwhile, is a whimsical outdoor gallery bedecked with vibrant colors and drawings by local hero Mr Wong – a KMT veteran from the Chinese Civil War (1945-49). The ageing village got a new lease on life when it was revitalised around 10 years ago.

We’ll also stop at the Gaomei Wetlands, a must-see natural attraction for visitors to Taichung. Have your cameras at the ready for when sunset hits – the best one you’ll see in Taiwan. Visitors flock to the wooden walkway at golden hour to view the magical colors dominate the sky with the unique landscape of windmills outlined against the fading light.

Finally, we’ll hit the FengJia Night Market, a massive complex of stalls hawking traditional Taiwanese street food, modern Asian fusion, and westernised cuisine. Other goods from clothing to electronics can also be found here, but we’re sure you’ll make a beeline for the food, which we’ll leave you to as we conclude the tour. Bon apetit!
