About
If you’ve already seen all there is to see in Mexico City, how about going beyond the city borders to the charming colonial towns of Taxco and Cuernavaca? Get a change of scenery and go on this full day trip for a scenic and historical adventure.
Cradled by the Tepozteco Mountains, Cuernavaca is called “City of the Eternal Spring.” Here we’ll visit the Cathedral of Cuernavaca, said to be one of the oldest churches in the Americas. This formidable 16th-century church was a center for Franciscan missionaries and was gilded by indigenous artists in the baroque style. We’ll pass by frescoes – allegedly painted in the 17th century – that depict stories of the missionaries in Asia.
“Another beautiful trip to the town of Cuernavaca. Visited different holy sites with beautiful churches! I recommend stopping for a visit before heading to Taxco.” – Ann, USA
We then move on to Taxco, a town in the state of Guerrero, southwest of Mexico City. This centuries-old colonial site nestled on a hillside is famed for its silver jewelry production and beautiful architecture. Absorb the atmosphere here, framed by winding cobblestone streets, tile-roof buildings, cozy squares and a strong Old World feel that somehow managed to survive through the passage of time.
Plaza Borda, the main square, is home to the landmark 18th-century Santa Prisca Church. One of Mexico’s grandest churches, it features stone towers and a rose-colored facade commissioned in 1759 by José de la Borda. The French-Spaniard struck silver in the 1700s and became Mexico’s richest man.
“Santa Prisca is a historical monument in the town of Taxco. This beautiful church is amazing both inside and out with some stunning views from the bell tower… If you’re in Taxco, it's definitely worth a visit.” – Hillary, USA
