With a little help from a Taiwanese professional, you’ll handicraft a gorgeous lantern and inscribe it with a handwritten wish before releasing it into the sky. Watching it drift away on nature’s breath is not only therapeutic, but an authentic insight into Taiwanese culture.
Next, we’ll stop at several highlights of the Pingxi region including beloved Shifen Old Street, a charming collection of old-fashioned alleyways. The area was once used for transporting coal during the Japanese era, but now it’s mainly popular with tourists and locals meeting for coffee and ambient strolls.
‘‘This place is fun and a must-visit! Lots of food and drinks on the street, loved the Aiyu Jelly… The street is just off of the train tracks and it’s cool to watch the trains go by pretty close to the shops. After the train leaves, people get back on the tracks to light and send lanterns into the sky.’’ — Ash, India
Your friendly tour guide will fill you in on the history before taking you to explore scenic Shifen Waterfall, nicknamed ‘Taiwan’s Niagara Falls’, and old-fashioned Shifen Railway Station built in 1918. You’ll arrive back at your accommodation having seen a brand new side to the diverse city of Taipei.
