About
Is Taiwan the true home of bubble tea and shaved ice? Find the answer to this question and more as we eat our way through Taipei’s quintessential “eating street” – Yongkang Street!
We’ll meet our food guru at Dongmen Station, and follow him or her to the bustling side alleys that define Taipei’s food scene. Some of the best Taiwanese and Japanese restaurants can be found here, in addition to stalls serving shaved ice, street food, desserts and more.
Yongkang Park is the neighborhood’s small centerpiece, dotting its south-side with stylish cafes boasting private decks and patios. Ready for the food extravaganza? Let’s begin!
Sample Food Menu:
- Fruits in season
Our Food Tour begins at a hidden traditional market, where we introduce you to Taiwan’s ripest fruit of the season!
- Dumplings
Taiwanese dumplings have gained a reputation of their own, differentiating themselves from their Chinese and Japanese counterparts. Discern their unique taste alongside hot and sour soup, another regional specialty!
- Bubble milk tea
A source of local pride and now a world phenomenon – the beloved Taiwanese bubble tea! It would literally be criminal not to have the original right here, right now.
- Flaky scallion pancakes
Perfectly crisp and flaky yet doughy on the inside… the Taiwanese scallion pancake, a Yongkang Street classic. The queues can stretch out on busy days, but stick with us and get special access to the popular snack spot!
- Taiwanese-style vermicelli & oden
Wax experimental with vermicelli served with intestines and the optional coriander, with a side of Taiwanese Oden*!
- Beef noodles
Comfort in a bowl, the Beef Noodle had its humble beginnings at Taiwan’s Post-World War 2 military villages. Today, Taipei hosts an annual competition in which residents vote the city’s best Beef Noodle dish!
- Taro/mango shaved ice
Is a food tour even complete without dessert? Do I even need an answer to thatquestion?! The only thing you should be considering is whether you’ll be having your Taiwanese shaved ice in taro, mango or another fruit in season!
*Oden: A type of nabemono (Japanese one-pot dishes), consisting of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon, konjac, and processed fish cakes stewed in a light, soy-flavored dashi broth.
