About

Named after an aboriginal tribe, Taroko National Park is famous for its spectacular mountains and marble canyons. Formed millions of years ago following the collision of tectonic plates, Taiwan’s landscape is like no other: the drop height of the largest mountains stretches up to 3,742 meters! How’s that for dramatic scenery?

Following a scenic train ride from Taipei to Hualien on the south-east coast of Taiwan, we’ll take you exploring Taroko National Park. Some of the highlights include:

Taroko Gorge: The main landmark of the park, carved out by Liwu River, is ever-present as we explore the awe-inspiring countryside and hiking trails.

Shakadang Trail: Once known as the Mysterious Valley Trail, this cliffside hike is one of the Park’s most popular. Spy unusual rock formations and wildlife including tropical butterflies and bright green tree frogs.

Eternal Spring Shrine (Changchun Temple): Crossing the suspension bridge to the bell tower of this striking memorial shrine, we’ll have spectacular views out over Taroko Gorge. The temple is dedicated to the 226 veterans who died building the Central Cross-Island Highway.

Swallow Grotto: Walk beneath distinctive wave rocks caused by millions of years of erosion. This peaceful spot is a favourite with hikers.
