About
Enrich your Mexican adventure with this day trip from Mexico City to the beautiful towns of Cholula and Puebla! As you enjoy spectacular views of the countryside, your friendly guide will bring you closer to the history and understanding of these two sites.
We’ll start the day with a scenic two-hour drive along the mountains to the city of Cholula. During the journey – good weather permitting – we’ll get to see glimpses of the majestic Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes.
After our arrival at the city of Cholula, we will visit a structure dedicated to the god Quetzalcoatla. The Great Pyramid of Cholula, also known as Tlachihualtepetl, is the largest known pyramid in present-day existence. Our guide will educate us on its origins as we marvel at this important religious and mythical centre from pre-hispanic times.
“When in Cholula, stop and visit the pyramids. Great place to take pictures. Make sure you have sturdy shoes and sunscreen as the sun can be unforgiving.” – Ann, USA
Next stop is Tonantzintla to explore the indigenous Baroque style church of Santa María de Tonantzintla. This impressive building was initially built in the 16th century and stands out for its spectacular interiors decorated in gold leaf.
“Cholula’s Templo de Santa Maria Tonantzinta is another Mexican Baroque masterpiece. ...The interior is so richly ornamented that it’s a wonder that congregants could focus on Mass.” – Sandy, USA
We will continue our journey with a visit to the center of Puebla, popularly known as the “City of Angels”. Here we will begin our walking tour and stroll by Puebla’s historic cathedral, Palafoxiana Library, Government Palace, and Antique Market.
