If there’s one thing you have to do when in Ho Chi Minh, it’s the day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels. There you will see first hand where the Vietnamese waged guerrilla warfare against the Americans… and won. The fellas at Trip Guru have repackaged this tour in a funner and action-packed format: via war-era American staple, the jeep.
An early start is needed to avoid the hottest parts of the day. You are, after all, in tropical jungle land. It takes around an hour and a half’s travel one way; enjoy the ride while it lasts!
At the site itself, you’ll be taken through community artefacts to see how the guerrillas planned out their survival the 1970s. Don’t worry, it’s probably going to be the most interesting and immersive history lesson you’ve ever had.
What else is included? An optional shooting range experience (AK47s and MK16s), snake-wine tasting (with real snakes! But only if you want...), and trying to fit into the traps and tunnels built by those clever Northern guerrillas. You’ll also get to sample the steamed tapioca root, Cu Chi’s main food staple during the war.
- Pickup at Ho Chi Minh hotel; meet jeep driver and tour guide
- Arrive at Cu Chi tunnels; short video and presentation about Cu Chi tunnels in underground hut; learn about Vietnam guerrilla tactics; hands-on experience of living and fighting in the tunnel
- Leave Cu Chi tunnels at noon and return to HCM city by Jeep
- Arrive back at hotel
The guide and driver were on time. Whole experience is awesome. Guide was very informative and the ride with jeep was something different. Will definitely recommend this tour to other travellers. Good pricing!
Amazing! You really get to see Vietnam with this tour. I highly recommend instead of going on a regular tour bus! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and very easy to understand.
Riding on the jeep is definitely the best way to get to Cu Chi. The road is totally yours when you feel the wind blow your hair. The tunnel was also amazing! I was never a big military buff, but with what I saw, I was immediately interested knowing what it was like during the war.
