Whale sightings in Maui draw many from far and wide, and it’s no wonder why. There are three separate “stocks” of humpback whales in the Pacific Ocean, some of which are known to regularly visit these islands during the winter whale season in Maui.
“Scientists estimate that as many as 12,000 humpback whales migrate from their feeding grounds off Alaska to breed, calve and nurse their young in Hawaiʻi’s warm waters. The PWF reports that the migration to Hawaiʻi is believed to be increasing at a rate of 7% per year.” – Maui Now
Seeing these animals in the water is an awe-inspiring experience. Even more fascinating is the ability to use underwater hydrophones to be able to hear the whales singing to each other. Humpback whales are known for their magical songs, which travel for great distances through the world's oceans.
Our non-profit partner on the ground wants everyone to be able to enjoy the magnificent whales of Maui in a sustainable way. Over 2-hour trips, kids can also join the Junior Naturalist Program to understand and appreciate these air-breathing marine mammals that grow up to 52 ft long.
“It was wonderful! They have the largest boat that is used for these tours… perfect for me, as I experience motion sickness and didn't have any issues. The staff is so knowledgeable and fun. We saw soooo many whales during our 2 hour trip. This is a MUST DO!!!” – Pamalama, Austin, Texas
