It might be tough trying to navigate this huge area on your own, which is why our friendly local guide will choose the best spots to visit:

Xiaoyoukeng: At the northwestern foot of Mt. Qixing – Taiwan’s tallest dormant volcano – is Xiaoyouking. Here we’ll see the steaming thermal vents (be prepared for the pungent smell of sulphur!), impressive sulphur crystals, and might even glimpse bubbling puddles along the footpath due to the geothermal heat.

“Spectacular geothermal terrain. A must see when you visit Taipei. There is a real volcano under your feet! ” Miller, Taiwan

Qingtiangang Grasslands: One of the more popular hiking spots because of its flat terrain, Qingtiangang is actually a lava terrace that was formed from the lava flow of the nearby Mt. Zhugao. Today, it is a serene expanse of land where cattle graze and visitors wander to admire nature.

“Beautiful prairie. The grassland is vast, the air is fresh, the blue sky and green areas are really beautiful when the weather is good. It is suitable for walking, relaxing, and enjoying nature.” Getaway810753

Beitou Hot Spring Museum: This once public Japanese bathhouse turned museum is housed in a large Victorian style building. We’ll stroll through the large lobby and pavilion, and see the numerous exhibtions where we’ll learn more about the rich hot spring culture and history of the area. After all the hiking and walking, you’ll get to soak your feet in a hot spring foot bath and relax as you let the warm water wash away your worries.

“Kudos to the team of visionaries who restored and renovated this former public bathhouse from when Taiwan was a Japanese colony. Spend an hour or two and you can get a glimpse into one facet of life that both the native Taiwanese and the Japanese enjoyed.” OSP, USA
