About

Give the bustling megamalls of Taipei a break and head north to see and explore unique rock formations, charming mountain villages, and more. We’ll take you on a full day adventure to Yehliu Geopark and Jiufen Village where we’ll visit the following scenic spots:

Yehliu Geopark: One of northern Taiwan’s popular gems, Yehliu Geopark is home to some of the world’s most unique geological formations. The geopark was formed after thousands of years of weathering and erosion, which has given birth to some of the park’s iconic orange crags, such as Queen’s Head, Princess’ Head, Mushroom Rocks, Sea Candles, Fairy Shoe, Ice Cream Rock, Kissing Rock, and more.

“The craggy orange rocks of Yehliu Geopark look like something from a different planet. Towering rock formations have been battered into bizarre shapes by the elements, many of them resembling people’s profiles or random items… The whole park really is a wonderland and I could have spent all day admiring the formations.” Where Goes Rose, UK

Yin Yang Sea: This scenic coastal bay is known for its contrasting gold and blue hues. Because of its proximity to nearby mining villages, many locals believed that its goldish-yellowish color was due to previous mining activities. However, it was found that the color actually comes from large amounts of insoluble pyrite (also known as ‘Fool’s Gold’) in the water.

Jiufen Old Street: Charming and quaint mountain towns don’t get any better than Jiufen, and its bustling alleyways and narrow streets filled with shops and restaurants are truly a sight to behold. Not to mention the sweeping views of the mountains and seas too! Have lunch at a local restaurant, and make a stop at a local tea house and theater for some photos.

Gold Museum: This hilltop heritage museum with scenic views is the perfect place to learn about Jiufen’s rich history as a once prosperous mining village. Walk through exhibition halls, see large scale models and equipment and tools used, and even get the chance to experience mining for gold the old fashioned way.

“Had the chance to join the night tour and a visit to the museum with the owner, the son of a former miner. I learned so much about the history of Jiufen and mining. Worth the trip and visit!” Stephanie, Indonesia

Elephant Rock: This magnificent rock formation was aptly named because of its similar appearance to the gentle pachyderm. The natural build of the rock as well as the shapely arch is said to resemble an elephant’s head with its trunk plunging into the sea.

“This is a short hike but the view of the rock and the surrounding ocean areas is amazing. You can take some nice pictures as well!” Matthew
