Discover Krabi Town Center & Wat Kaew - Krabi
Krabi Town is the provincial capital of Krabi and is a bustling market town. At first, fish from the river and the sea provided Krabi with its main industry, but now it offers various services, from entertaining activities to deliciously tempting food, and it even has a temple, perfect for those looking to soothe their souls and to find some inner peace in a turbulent world. Trip Guru highly recommends that you don't miss this beautiful temple, located in the center of town. What it lacks in size, it makes up for with its rustic charm and personality.
Tucked away like a secret, guarded by golden Naga statues on the steps is the Wat Kaew. It's a great opportunity to reflect and contemplate, as a little island of creative wonder awaits you. The walls and ceiling are beautifully decorated, with its white walls and tiled dark blue roof. Wat Kaew has awe-inspiring wall paintings, a grand Buddha statue and precious relics make a stunning backdrop for photos. Tiger Cave Temple or the Wat Tham Sua is another nearby temple that offers a one-of-a-kind spiritual experience: the temple is actually a network of natural caves that formed within the jungle. Challenge yourself and climb the 1,272 steps up a limestone tower and see an amazing panoramic 360-degree view of the Andaman Sea, tropical islands and a stately golden Buddha statue is located on top of the mountain.
If you want to experience an adrenaline rush, there's nothing better than the Krabi Kart Speedway. It's set in an awe-inspiring landscape, complete with tall limestone cliffs decorating the track lanes. There are four kart-types to choose from, suitable for friends, family and experienced drivers alike! If you don’t know how to drive, not to worry: you can still have fun watching the races while cooling off with a delicious drink at a nearby bar, watching the races from the overlooking terrace.
Tiger Cave Temple is open all year-round and is located 3 kilometers south of Krabi Town, off the road to Koh Lanta and Tang. The Wat Kaew is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00am to 4:00pm, located just opposite of Soi 6, off Maharaj road in downtown Kabi. The Krabi Kart Speedway is in between Krabi Town and Ao Nang, right next to Wat Sat Thai. It’s open from 9:00am to 6:00pm.
What our experts tell about this experience.
When I came here I visited the Wat Kaew Temple and I really liked how white and pearly it looked. My mother of course, liked it even more! After that I had my parents go snorkeling and I took my brother to Krabi Kart Speedway. We had a blast there. We also watched a match between a few locals. Who were actually gambling who would win. They were nice people and we even raced with them afterwards. My parent came back and told us how much the enjoyed the snorkeling around Krabi as well! We all had a real good time!
The whole of Kaew Temple is painted white!! Marvelous! I met an expat who was here with his brother and he was telling me that most of the expats here call it “The Wedding Cake” ! I really do understand why. It looks just like one! I was taking pictures of everything as I’ve never seen anything as beautiful but then I got a grumpy face from one a two of the monks. Maybe they were in a bad mood or just don’t like to be photographed.. so heads up and be careful about that.
