The Perth Mint

Australia’s official bullion mint, The Perth Mint was the last of three Australian colonial branches of the United Kingdom’s Royal Mint intended to refine gold from the gold rush, and to mint gold sovereigns and half-sovereigns for the British.

About

Australia’s official bullion mint, The Perth Mint was the last of three Australian colonial branches of the United Kingdom’s Royal Mint intended to refine gold from the gold rush, and to mint gold sovereigns and half-sovereigns for the British. Currently, it is one of the popular Perth tourist attractions hosting demonstrations and exhibitions, including the Guinness World Record of the largest coin in the world.

Other activities include one of the Perth day trips through the Newmont Boddington Gold Mine (Australia’s largest operating gold mine), the viewing of natural gold nuggets, watching the creation of a gold bar, and the actual handling of one. The Perth Mint also has a shop with an extensive jewelry collection and gift ideas.

How to get there

Located in the heart of Perth, the Mint is easily accessible by foot traveling west along Hay Street or via the free Red CAT bus circling the city via West Perth. It is also around a 10-minute car ride from the Perth Arena.
