An Immersion into Nature

For those looking for some fresh air, Yangmingshan National Park is the place to go. The Taiwanese countryside is just a short drive away from the capital, making for several fun and refreshing Taipei day trips.

The city is surrounded by the Shamao, Qixing, Datun and Guanyin mountains. To add to the magnificent scenery, there are many accessible lakes, waterfalls, hiking trails, and hot springs. 

A lot can be done here, especially if you are an outdoors enthusiast: from hiking and bird watching to cycling!

• Qingtiangang Grassland Trails: This park has a wide network of trails, one of them being the Qingtiangang Grassland trails, a lava terrace turned park. Qingtiangang provides outstanding views of Yangmingshan National Park.
• Zhuzihu Village: Hidden away in the mountains is a picturesque farming village, which happens to be home to the area’s famous Calla Lilies. One of the most relaxing places to visit in Taipei, it has pine and bamboo forests, where you can get a lungful of mountain air. 
• Beitou Hot Springs: Back during the Japanese time, the area was developed into a resort destination. Until now, there are still onsens (hot springs) both public and private that you can choose from; private hot springs must be reserved in advance. The existence of this area shows the Japanese’s lasting influence in Taiwan. 

Getting there

• Get on a Taipei tourand avail of pick up and drop off to your accommodation
• Bus: Take Bus 260 to the Yamingshan stop.
• MRT: Take the MRT to Jiantan Station, continue by Bus Red-5 to Yangmingshan stop.

Getting around

• Shuttle bus: From 7:00am to 5:30pm, the park operates a shuttle bus (No. 108) that loops around the area starting from the Yangmingshan Bus Station. Fares: NT$15 (each ride), NT$60 (daytrip).
