About
You've seen the videos: people walking straight up a waterfall like gravity took the day off. That's Bua Tong, about an hour north of Chiang Mai, and it's every bit as fun in person. The trick is the limestone. Mineral deposits from the spring that feeds the falls coat the rocks in a rough, chalky crust, so your feet grip instead of slide, even with water rushing over your ankles. After a smooth drive out of the city, you'll have free time at Bua Tong to climb the tiers at your own pace. Hold the guide ropes on the steeper sections, sit in the shallow pools, and wander up to the spring at the top, where the water turns a clear blue-green. It's the kind of spot that looks staged on camera but is completely real.
Next, you'll hop back in the van for a short ride to Dantewada Land of Angels, a waterfall park dotted with angel sculptures, flower gardens, small caves and plenty of photo spots. Where Bua Tong is about getting your feet wet, Dantewada is about slowing down: stroll the paths, duck into the caves and take your time with the views.
Then it's straight back to Chiang Mai. No temple stops you didn't ask for, no shopping detours, no long lunch break eating into your afternoon. Choose the morning or afternoon slot to fit your plans, and your professional driver handles the roads while you dry off.
