We'll start the day with the scenic climb into the northern mountains to reach Sekumpul Waterfall, widely considered Bali's most spectacular cascade and a true hidden gem far from the southern crowds. The steep roads and misty mountains would be tough to navigate solo, so let your experienced guide do the hard work, leading you down the forest trail and roughly 300 steps to the valley floor, where the falls thunder into a misty pool. Take your time here for photos; this is the heart of the day.

“An unforgettable experience in this nestled natural place far from the noisy areas of Ubud.” — Skizzo, China

A quick heads-up: Sekumpul is a genuine trek. The descent and climb back up take some effort and good footwear, and it's exactly what makes reaching this hidden valley so rewarding.

After the falls, we'll head south for a tasty local lunch (own expense) with a view of the highland scenery, before visiting two of Bali's holiest temples.

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple dates back to the 17th century, built to worship the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Today, locals come from far and wide to lay colourful offerings at this picturesque water temple, which appears to float on the still surface of Lake Beratan against the mountain backdrop of Bedugul. You may even recognise it from the Indonesian 50,000 rupiah note.

“The smooth reflective surface of the lake surrounding most of the temple’s base creates a unique floating impression, while the mountain range of the Bedugul region encircling the lake provides the temple with a scenic backdrop.”Dotzsoh, Singapore

Once you've snapped your photos, we'll continue to Taman Ayun Temple, a UNESCO Heritage site whose name translates as 'beautiful garden'. Admire ponds full of fish and lotus flowers and marvel at impressive Balinese architecture, while your guide explains how Mengwi's royals conducted daily life here centuries ago. How's that for a memorable day out?
