Java Volcano Trail 4D3N: Bromo, Tumpak Sewu & Ijen (from Surabaya)
Java
What are the highlights of this tour?
- Three of East Java's natural icons in one trip: Bromo's sunrise, the towering Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, and Ijen's electric-blue fire.
- Tumpak Sewu sets this apart from the standard Bromo–Ijen route — a dramatic curtain waterfall that most short tours skip.
- See the Blue Fire of Ijen, one of only two places on earth where this rare phenomenon occurs.
- Flexible ending: choose to be dropped off back in Surabaya or continue overland to Bali — ideal whether you're flying out or heading to Bali next.
- English-speaking guide-driver stays with you for the whole journey, not a different handler at each stop.
- Three nights of real accommodation spread across the route for proper rest before each early start.
About
East Java packs three of the world's rarest natural spectacles into one corner of the island — and this four-day private tour connects all of them without the rush. Start before dawn on a 4WD jeep ride across the Bromo sea of sand to watch the sun rise over an active volcano. Trek down into a jungle amphitheater at Tumpak Sewu, where a curtain of waterfalls thunders into a single basin. And finish with a midnight climb into Ijen crater, where sulfuric gas ignites into blue flames found in only one other place on Earth.
Most short tours cover Bromo and Ijen alone. This route adds Tumpak Sewu, the dramatic waterfall most itineraries skip because of the extra driving time — worth it once you're standing at the bottom looking up.
Travel the whole way with the same English-speaking guide-driver in a private air-conditioned vehicle, staying three nights in real accommodation so you're rested before each early start. At the end, choose your own finish: head back to Surabaya, or continue overland to Bali via the Ketapang–Gilimanuk ferry.
