About
Many people visit Mount Fuji directly from Tokyo and forget to explore the surrounding region – missing out on the striking mountains, lakes and caves. The stunning landscape makes it a gorgeous area to tour by bus, as we will on this day trip. We’ll stop at some of the highlights, filling you in on the history and filling you up which delicious Japanese food and sake, the most famous beverage from Japan.
Out first point of call after departing from Tokyo will be Fugaku Wind Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave. At these unique geological formations, you’ll learn about how ice and silkworms were stored here in the past, offering a unique insight into life in times gone by. You’ll also get to explore the eerie depths of the lava tubes and admire otherworldly stalactites and stalagmites.
After a tasty local lunch of houtou, a famous udon (flat noodle) soup with meat or veg, at Hoto Futo by Japanese studio Takeshi Hosaka Architects, we’ll continue the tour to Mount Fuji Ropeway. This will be the scenic highlight of your day, if not your time in Japan! The hanging bridge offers spectacular views of Mount Fuji on a clear day with an observation deck that stands at a dizzying 1,000 metres above sea level.
‘‘The views from the top are breathtaking and you get a clear sight of Mount Fuji’’ — Abhi, New Zealand
For the final stop of the day, we’ll take you to Fuji Sake Brewery to try the national Japanese beverage. Not only will you sample different blends of sake, you’ll learn how it’s produced and explore the charming Japanese gardens surrounding the brewery. Cheers!
‘‘It was so interesting seeing the factory, learning about the history and seeing the beautiful traditional garden. The sake also tasted amazing!’’ — Olivia, New Zealand
