About
Doi Pui, which has an elevation of 1,685 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in the national park. While it’s famous for its relatively cool climate – ranging from 20-23°C – evergreen forests, glorious flora, and interesting bird and mammal biodiversity, one of the most popular Chiang Mai attractions here is the local ethnic village of the Hmong tribe.
Situated less than 5km from Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, a visit to this village presents a glimpse into the daily life of the tribal villagers. You’ll be able to experience their way of life, enter their humble abode, view their instruments, costumes, crafts, and learn about their history and culture.
Good to know
- The entrance of the Hmong Village is lined with shops that sell a variety of wares, such as textiles, gemstones, flowers, fruits and tea. This is a village effort to sustain their way of life.
- Next to the market is a museum, where you can learn more about the tribe’s livelihood. You can even hire a student guide to tell you the history behind the exhibits.
- At the top of the hill you’ll find a garden area with beautiful flowers. Take note that there is an entrance fee of 10THB for the garden’s maintenance.
How to get there
Usually, travel agencies will provide tours to the Hmong Village that are already incorporated with itineraries including a trip to explore Doi Pui or Doi Suthep. It is recommended to join a tour as there is no direct way to get to the tribal village.
If you’re up for the challenge, you must first get to Doi Suthep, take a songthaew to Doi Pui, and from there make your way to the Hmong Village.
