See: A visit to the Mekong Delta is unforgettable for the scenes and landscapes unraveling the best of rural Vietnam’s picturesque countryside. Think simple sights such as children going to school on bicycles or hitching a ride on the back of a hardworking water buffalo, rice farmers busily caring for their crop, vendors eagerly unpacking their wares for the day...
Do: In the delta, boats are the main form of transportation. Some beautiful sights are My Tho, where you can get a boat and cross the Tien River to Tuoi Son Island and Ben Tre on boat canals. You can also graze on fresh seafood and observe some coconut candy factories. For the best experience, get yourself on the river by 3 or 4pm for perfect lighting; this is also usually when tour groups have already left for Saigon, so you can have the place all to yourself!

Cai Be, on the other hand, is a village that lies on the Tien River. It’s a busy, bustling attraction where travelers can buy fruit and other useful merchandise on boats. The village is famous for its orchard gardens and bee farms (although the traditional music is also another reason to visit), so make sure to try the fresh-cut watermelon and other tropical fruit from the vendors. Other local delicacies include popped rice, coconut candies, and the local honey. A trip to Cai Be village perfect if you wish to sample fresh food and de-stress from life in a peaceful village setting.
How to get there
- The Mekong Delta is 4 hours away from Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam, while the Cai Be village is roughly a 2 hour drive away.
