“Simply amazing! Great experience walking up Mt. Inari. The higher you go, the less people you will see. It takes around 1-2 hours to the top, depending on your pace. A place you must visit when in Japan.” – Wium, Malaysia
Fushimi Inari Taisha is divided into two parts: the upper shrine and the lower shrine. The lower part is located at the base of Mount Inari and is where the main entrance, offering hall, and several smaller shrines are located. The upper part is situated on the mountain and is accessed by a hiking trail lined with thousands of vermillion torii gates. This part of the shrine features smaller shrines, as well as stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains.
“We came here on the afternoon of our first day in Kyoto and found this to be the most fascinating shrine that we visited during our two weeks in Japan.” – Rumples, USA
You have the option to explore both the upper and lower parts of the shrine (Option A). This option includes a hiking trail and approximately an hour more of walking. If you’d like to skip the walking and head straight to the Instagrammable torii gates, you can opt for just the lower part (Option B).
